If you saw an ad on TV for candy bars referred to as “all natural foods” or cookies called “high fiber foods” you probably wouldn’t believe they’re really healthy. However, some multi billion dollar corporations are now spending millions of dollars each year to persuade the general public that their products are healthy, regardless of the ingredients. Some of those ingredients, like artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils and trans fats, have been linked to serious, life threatening diseases. Other ingredients are cleverly disguised as high fiber foods or healthy all natural foods, when in fact they are just more processed junk food.
You don’t have to be a victim of the advertiser’s manipulation. You can avoid eating processed foods by including more truly all natural foods and a greater abundance of high fiber foods in your diet. When you pay attention to what you eat you will increase your self-awareness. You will find that it’s easier to manage a healthy weight, create more energy and develop a happier, healthier lifestyle.
As you eat more authentic all natural foods and high fiber foods, your digestive system naturally knows how to efficiently break down the components using the appropriate amount of energy, without tricking the body. On the flip side, foods that contain numerous additives take a longer amount of time to digest. They force the body to work harder to metabolize the additives. This can drain your energy, making you feel lethargic. All natural foods not only provide the body with more usable energy, they are much easier on the digestive system.
Foods that contain artificial sweeteners are even more difficult for the body to process, and here’s why. The body creates insulin in order to break down glucose. This is not necessarily a big problem when digesting all natural foods or high fiber foods that contain natural sugars. However, when you eat food that contains artificial sweeteners the body believes it has consumed glucose. Insulin is then created, but can’t be used to break down the glucose that is not really there. Thus, the artificial sweetener has tricked the body. The unused insulin is eventually stored in places like the liver, which may contribute to a toxic buildup. The more toxins that accumulate in your liver as well as other organs and muscle tissues, the less fat that can be broken down. That’s why artificial sweeteners are believed to contribute to serious health problems such as obesity, and have been known to trigger certain cancers in the body.
By consuming more all natural foods, especially high fiber foods such as fruits and vegetables, you are able to live a life that is full of energy. Also, it has been proven that this kind of sound nutrition will help you lower the risks of contracting life-threatening diseases. Fiber is one of the most important elements often missing from the modern diet. It has been widely reported that high fiber foods help protect the body against certain preventable diseases such as colon cancer, hemorrhoids, obesity, heart disease, high blood sugar and high cholesterol. This makes high fiber food an essential component of the all natural foods chosen for any diet.
It is recommended that people consume at least 35 grams of fiber per day. Unfortunately, the average person only consumes ten grams of fiber per. However, by sticking to a diet primarily filled with healthy, all natural foods, it’s much easier to reach the target of 35 grams per day. These high fiber foods can easily be found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, cereals, grains and pastas.
Here are a few specific examples of foods high in fiber that are simple to include in a daily diet:
Whole wheat breads
Whole wheat pasta
Broccoli, celery, garlic
Apples, apricots, blueberries, plums, pears, oranges and strawberries
Green beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans and black beans
Almonds, cashews, peanuts and pistachios
Tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms, peppers and onions
Brown rice
Raisins, dates, and figs.
Spinach or other leafy green vegetables
These are excellent all natural foods because they taste great and you can add them into your favorite meals. If you are not getting enough high fiber foods in your diet then you may want to have a fruit salad for a snack, or add potatoes and a spinach salad to your main meat dish at mealtime. Your digestive system will thank you.
In general, remember that all natural foods are not overly processed with ingredients like preservatives, hydrogenated oils, trans fats, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors or flavors and that a diet rich in high fiber foods will help you maintain a happy, healthy lifestyle.
