Do you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women? Breast cancer is also the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in American women. Most cases of breast cancer are diagnosed when a mammogram reveals a lump. A change in the texture of breast tissue can also be a warning sign of breast cancer.
Fortunately, due to public awareness, more women are having mammogram testing on a regular basis. This is enabling doctors to detect cancer while it is still in the early stages. This has resulted in an increase in the survival rate of breast cancer victims. However, breast cancer is still the major cause of death in women between the ages of 45 and 55.
After much research, it is believed that the cause of breast cancer is usually genetic or due to hormonal issues. Breast cancer treatment depends on many aspects. In the worst cases a mastectomy will be performed. But in other cases radiation therapy and medication are helpful.
If you have undergone some type of breast surgery due to a cancerous growth, your doctor may prescribe a medication such as Nolvadex for long term use. This is a very effective way to prevent the cancer from returning. Or perhaps you have just completed your sessions of radiation therapy. Nolvadex could also be taken for the same reason, i.e. to prevent the tumor coming back.
Nolvadex belongs to a group of drugs called selective estrogen receptor modulators. These drugs prevent the hormone, estrogen, from getting to breast tissue. By blocking the estrogen, this prevents cancer cells from growing and spreading. Nolvadex is prescribed for five years. If, after this period, there is no sign of the cancer, you will be able to stop taking the medication.
The treatment with Nolvadex is very simple. Just one pill a day is all that is needed. Another advantage of Nolvadex is that you will not experience any severe or uncomfortable side effects.
